*START is a partnership between Hartlepool Borough Council (HBC) and Foundations, delivering an integrated substance misuse treatment service. The service commissioned by Hartlepool Borough Council Public Health team, deliver community based treatment services to the adults and young people of Hartlepool.
HBC provide both care coordination of cases and psychosocial interventions (PSI), alongside Foundations clinical services.
Psychosocial interventions are structured psychological or social interventions used to address substance-related problems. They can be used at different stages in the treatment journey, to identify the problem, treat it and assist with social reintegration. Clinical services, when required, include substitute prescribing of opiate based medications, harm reduction interventions such as confidential needle exchange services and detox programmes, which are delivered by Foundations. When a client requires both PSI services and clinical treatment they are allocated a Care Coordinator from HBC and a Clinical Support Worker from Foundations. Clients are offered appointments with both of their allocated workers, the staff team will also complete joint appointments to optimise treatment every 12 weeks.
START take self-referrals, as well as from other professionals, family members and carers, with consent of the person requiring treatment. The easiest way to refer is to call the team on the contact number provided.
If you have any questions please feel free to contact and discuss them with a member of the team by email substancemisuse@hartlepool.gov.uk or telephone 01429 285000
